Microneedling

Microneedling is one of the most popular medical aesthetics procedures available because it’s affordable, can be performed on almost anyone, has little downtime, and ticks just about every single skin-rejuvenation box.

Microneedling is the process of penetrating tiny needles into the skin to create thousands of controlled micro wounds to the dermis. When you wound the dermis, you stimulate your skin’s natural ability to heal itself, which in turn produces new collagen. Microneedling also softens fine lines and wrinkles, reduces the appearance of scars, stretch marks and hyperpigmentation, while also improving tone and texture.

FAQS

WHAT MICRONEEDLING PEN IS USED?
We use Rejuvapen NXT, which is an FDA cleared, next generation microneedling pen.  It’s the Cadillac of medical grade microneedling pens.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED TO SEE RESULTS?
Collagen remodeling takes at least 90 days, so the effects of microneedling may not be fully appreciated for at least 3 months after the procedure, but the effects last for years.  The results are gradual because this is a natural progression, just how it takes a while to see increased muscle mass from lifting weights.  You won't see major results from 1 treatment.  Major results are seen when you receive a series of 4-6 treatments, spaced 1 month apart.  We will help you determine how many sessions you need, based on the condition of your skin.

WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME?
Most patients are red for a day or two.  If you have sensitive skin, you could be red or splotchy for a little longer.

DOES IT HURT?
We use a medical grade numbing agent that is the strongest numbing cream available (BLT: 30% benzocaine, 10% lidocaine, 6% tetracaine).  You will feel some mild discomfort in a couple areas (upper lip and forehead), but other than that it is a very tolerable, simple procedure.

CAN ALL SKIN TYPES BE TREATED?
Yes!  That is one of the many reasons why microneedling is so fabulous!

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF MICRONEEDLING?
Though side effects are rare, the risks associated with microneedling are bruising, infection, scarring and hyperpigmentation.  It is important to honestly disclose all existing medical conditions, medication you are currently taking, and follow post procedure care to prevent any adverse reactions.

WHEN CAN I RESUME MY NORMAL MAKEUP & SKINCARE ROUTINE?
We would prefer for you to sleep in the post procedure silicone gel that Mandy applies after your treatment.  You can apply makeup the following day and you can resume using “active” skin care products, such as Vitamin C and retinol, 3 days post procedure.

WHY SHOULD I BOOK THIS TREATMENT AT HEY BUTTERFLY?
Our licensed medical aesthetician, Mandy Lauderdale, has been in the aesthetics field for over 20 years.  She has operated just about every single energy based device in the field and is extremely well versed in the science of the skin.  She has performed over 1200 microneedling treatments and could practically do it with her eyes closed (though she won’t).  Also, she includes the neck and decollete when you book a microneedling treatment for your face (most spas upcharge for those areas).
